What's Cooking?

Risengrød. That’s what. It’s a little like rice pudding and a Christmas staple for the Danes (and all the little elves that live in the attic). Making it is simple enough: boil water, milk, and rice, but here is where things get a little more… interesting. Right on the package it says to put the mix in your bed for a few hours. So we took the pot, wrapped it in blankets and set it on the mattress! When it was finished the rice had expanded and the milk thickened. We re-heated the Risengrød and sprinkled it with a healthy dose of cinnamon sugar and butter. All in all, not too bad!

  1. My mom's rice pudding was the only rice I had ever eaten until I was probably 20 and ate a meal at a Chinese restaurant for the first time. She made nearly the same way - but with out the time on the bed.
